See you in next WBGC 2014

WBGC has ended with a bang! Like all good things, it must come to an end, at least for 2013 that is.
It is time now to reflect what we did right and what we could have done better.  But first, we simply must acknowledge the generousity of our sponsor, Dato Sri Michael Manyin Anak Jawong for all his relentless contribution and support to this tournament. I am not able to recall any year when he failed to turn up for the prize-giving ceremony since 2005! Thank you Dato Sri. Also I did whisper to him during the prize-giving ceremony that the challenge trophy is rather faded and in need of total upgrade if you know what I mean.  One positive thing about that whisper is for next year the winner of gross can take the current challenge trophy home. A new one will be donated complete with the latest and most glamorous decorations.

WBGC is lucky to have a professional in the personality of Dr. Mosko Reuben to assist with the directing the tournament. In the past we were quite accommodative to just run and let it roll sometimes with whim and fancies for example, another golfer to be paired with another of his own chosen playmate citing reason that, yeah, ‘kaki lawan, cut-throat’ whatever that maybe. This year the draws was done according to the rule of law and other accommodative situations as deemed fit by the committee. That’s why if you have similar name with a fellow lady golfer, hmm you are out! (LOL, JK).
Earlier in the month we decided that all participants must submit their name by 20 July 2013. In reality, that’s not possible and as most of you could see, there were 10 versions of the draw published and if you get the list before midnight, chance are you might get the out dated list. Thanks to the modern way of doing thing, had it not because of computer, the draw list alone could have use a one full rim of A4 paper! Oh man.  Let me tell you this though. That WBGC is in my mind already listed in the world golf calendar (punch intended) that it shall happen in the month of June or July every year, like ‘Gawai’ itself so no reason to miss it. So yeah when Moses Jeros told me he didn’t know about this until late, he was just making excuses. Anyway congratulations to him.
There is something in the Terms and Conditions that save the day. Rule three which I clearly reprinted a day after the tournament as the committee was accused  of putting in the wrong handicap on the name list. Rather than dwelling on that, we would like the people involve to recheck the rule which we put up few days before the tournament and we stop at that and move on.
We will never thanks the sponsors enough especially individual and of course DBNA and the president who took the lead in spearheading the preparation right from the start during the Skin Game few weeks before this. Mr Albert Tanon has been a consistent sponsor. We also must mention Ahkim Sarok for his relentless effort to ensure we have the money to run the tournament. As you can see (well you need a magnifying glass) this year for the first time, we gave away a small crystal with special text “World Bidayuh Golf Championship 2013”, “Breaking Barriers” written on the crystal for all winners. The texts are too small to be seen with your naked eyes but it is there. So apart from having a wonderful cash prizes you can also have that crystal to remember the tournament.

This year my nemesis James Sinjeng agreed to returned to be the MCEE for the prize-giving ceremony after a few year absent much to our delight. He has been efficient to say the least. Nothing efficient about his performance on the fairway though. (ahem).
Before I warp up, I must say thank you to all the participants from far and wide. Nothing beats the good feeling that you guys really enjoyed yourselves  and joined the prizes-giving ceremony later. I am sure Dr Sinang has many more war stories about the strokes that got away.
To my beloved cousin Clarence Rorote, if only he knew what he played for maybe he would have putted much better. Only If…

To my regular playing partner Jabing Bujing, some day “satu Par pun susah”!
See you in next WBGC 2014.
