WBGC 2008 RESULTS

OOOOOOOOAAAAHH! EEEEAAHHH!

World Bidayuh Golf Championship tournament which concluded at Damai Golf was a bloodbath for some, a home coming for others and a personal triumph for many.

For me, my moment of victory started before than game began!

Imagine this...if it rains, mother nature is poised to wash away many weeks of preparation, A thousand ringgit of sponsorship money at stake and not to mention utter disappointment of Bidayuh golfers from the world over coming for the tournament.

Putting my fingers crossed, I calmly watched a stream of golfers came and register. As the number swell, my personal triumph to ensure that this year the number of golfers well-exceed the initial projection - that's my moment of victory. Forget about the missed birdie putts, the OBs and the 'many might have been' and even if I shoot few thousand strokes, nothing beats the happy look of Bidayuh golfers on the day, 30 May 2008.

I simply must tell you here that I have other tricks in my sleeves for the day. When in need, we have a 'Dukun' aka James Sinjeng to stop the rain coming our way.

99.9 percent of the golfers knew that the game started at 8.30 sharp and the 1 percent belong to the unfortunate soul who missed the tee-off time. It happened.

As WBGC would have it, the game started in passionate pace, shriek of joy could be heard in every green as fellow Bidayuh slugged it out in a true gawai spirit, so to speak. The game finished according to schedule at 1pm. High tea followed and the flow of joy turned in.

The rain came well after the game ended as though by special instruction by our 'Dukun' to wash away some the dusts and dirts from the greens.

On a personal note, I am very happy that the new WBGC 2008 is Lester Simbas. Congratulations to him, He deserves it.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR...

Mamat was a man of faith, and a man of the golf course. He played golf every Sunday religiously, but only after attending church services.
Mamat was getting on in years, and one day after feeling ill, he said to his wife, "I sure hope there is golf in the afterlife. I feel terrible!"
His wife told him not to overreact with talk about the afterlife. "Go to pray and say a little prayer," she suggested, "and you'll feel better."
So Mamat headed to pray. As he kneeled at the pew, Mamat whispered a prayer: "Oh Lord, thank you for everything - my health, my wife and my golf game. I hope that when I reach Heaven I can still play golf."
As soon as he finished, a voice thundered: "Mamat, this is the Lord. I hear you and will answer your question.
Do you want the good news or the bad news first?"
Mamat was startled. "Well, give me the good news," he said.
The Lord replied, "The good news is that in Heaven, we have thousands of championship golf courses, play is never slow, it's always free and you will never lose a golf ball."
Mamat was ecstatic, "That's wonderful! You've answered my prayer! But what is the bad news?"
The Lord replied, "You tee off tomorrow at 9 a.m."

WBGC DRAWS HUGE CROWD. WELCOME TO GOLF.

Due to the overwhelming response to this WBGC Tournament, we are receiving more than the expected number of golfers. Consequently this response has compelled us to re-schedule the tee-off format to ensure timely completion of the golf game. The tee-off format is now changed to 'Shotgun' instead of staggering as indicated earlier. This means that golfers are kindly to register as early as 7.30 am.

Also you might have noticed how your handicap has differentiated and some called me or sent SMS about this. Well, we did not 'sexed' it up but rather a submission from KGS based on indexed rating. In view of that we are working together with DGCC management to ensure your handicap is assigned accordingly. Please bring your handicap record or at least declare a genuine one.

Watch out this space for the new TEE-OFF time.

WBGC Logo - A reflection of time.

Why World Bidayuh? The answer is simple. Bidayuh are all over the world!

Thus the blue and blurred planet as the backdrop of the logo is a reflection of time - the existence of the Bidayuhs community living anywhere in the world but are now borderless due to the Internet.

The semi-circle lettering of 'World Bidayuh Golf Championship' compliments an elegant pose of a Bidayuh golfer after a perfect strike of a golf ball symbolises our desire to play this beautiful game with grace and dignity.

A 'V54' stands for Vision 54 - for a golfer is a perfect game. For example, if he
birdies every hole of par 72, he would have played a 54 strokes over an 18 hole course - a very difficult to achieve but not impossible.

A crimson-coloured banner with the letters 'WBGC' stands for World Bidayuh Golf Championship. It represents our human celebration of life since year 2005. Quite recent in a sense nevertheless never too late.

Our Moto 'Breaking Barriers' highlights our struggle to discover one another regardless of political, social and racial barriers.
